Fall Electrical Safety Tips

  • Cover Outdoor Electrical Outlets – Protect your outdoor outlets from the elements with “bubble covers.”

  • Use Space Heaters With Caution & Care – Never plug your space heater into an extension cord. Make sure there are absolutely no flammable materials near the heating unit.

  • Keep Equipment Away From Overhead Wires – Make sure ladders, hedge trimmers, and other tools don’t come into contact with electrical wires.

  • Remove Dry Leaves – Rake and bag any leaves that may encroach on electrical outlets, power cords, or outdoor lights.

  • Use Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) Outlets – All of your outdoor outlets should be GFCI protected.

  • Test All Smoke Detectors – Make sure you have enough working smoke detectors in your home.

  • Test All Carbon Monoxide Detectors – If you don’t have a CO detector, install one today! Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and deadly.
